Nioukyen FC Returns as Sowmai FC

After only participating in two MKS Melbourne tournaments, Nioukyen FC has quickly established itself as one of the "big four" in the tournaments, and have already climbed to fourth spot in the MKS Melbourne team rankings.

Their first appearance, in the Mauritian Futsal Cup 2010, saw them emerge second in the qualification stages.  Although they were defeated 1-0 by The Replacements and 2-0 by Black Hawk United, they defeated both Club Maurice and Undefeated 2-0.  Unfortunately, when they played Club Maurice again in the semi-finals, they drew 1-1 after extra time, and lost 11-10 in a drawn out penalty shoot-out.

They returned in the Champions Cup 2010 but finished third in their group and did not qualify for the semi-finals.  However, in the qualification stages, they did manage to draw The Replacements 1-1, defeated Not Quite Right 3-0, and also defeated United!!! 2-0.

Although the core of the team remains, there has been some player transfers.  Thus, the team has renamed itself Sowmai FC and is composed of:
  • Melvin Lim Shung (captain)
  • Sebastien Lan (vice-captain)
  • Gerald Wong
  • Derek Lee
  • Wes Ng
  • Kenny Woo
  • Jason Woo
  • Sanjay Dutt
Sowmai FC will be taking it one game at a time and is aiming to make it to the finals at the very least.  The team is particularly proud of being in the top four the MKS Melbourne team rankings, and is surely looking to secure a higher position at the end of the tournament.

With MKS Melbourne's hiring of referees, Sowmai FC is hoping for less disputes.  They state that although it is a competition, teams need to ensure that they are enjoying themselves as well.

Having gone toe-to-toe with other big teams from the MKS Melbourne tournaments, and emerging victorious, Sowmai FC is definitely a contender to emerge as the new champions.
