Champions Cup 2010 Tournament Groups and Format

After closing the registrations earlier on 26th August 2010 due to the large number of interested teams, MKS Melbourne have announced the much awaited tournament format.  MKS Melbourne also wishes to advise that it has been necessary to extend the finish time of the tournament to approximately 1700.  The start time of the tournament remains the same (0900).  MKS Melbourne advises that teams arrive slightly before 0900 to ensure the tournaments starts on time.  Teams should be aware of the late penalties that maybe imposed.


The tournament will consist of a group stage and a knock-out stage.  This is much the same format that other MKS Melbourne futsal tournaments have used in the past.

The group stage is a single round robin competition (each team plays every other team exactly once) and the knock-out stage is an elimination competition (only winning teams progress to the next phase).

MKS Melbourne used a seeding system in order to allocate teams to groups.  This is an attempt to ensure that top teams don't meet until later on in the competition and to balance the groups.  The 14 teams have been divided into two groups of 7 teams as follows.

MKS Melbourne is putting the final touches on the tournament and will communicate further to team captains and vice captains before the tournament begins.  In the mean time, teams are advised to train and practice as much as possible.  It will be a long and hard day of competition!
