Back for More: The Replacements

The Replacements have been on a winning streak in recent tournaments. They have emerged as back-to-back champion in both the Champions Cup Tournaments and the RMIT Soccer Challenge Tournaments. The Replacements are quite experienced as a team as they have played together for 3-4 seasons at FutsalOz in Brunswick. Their experience is quite apparent on the pitch and their record is a testament to that.

The team line up consists of:
  • Jason Cheong (captain)
  • Cameron Holmes (vice captain)
  • Michael Whan Kan
  • Nicolas Sin
  • Dean Singh
  • Duong Pham
Characteristically, The Replacements have once again entered the competition with less players than the maximum allowable. It is a gamble that captain, Jason Cheong, has always taken in every tournament for some unclear reason.

With Cheong's attacking prowess and the return of strike partner and vice captain Cameron Holmes, who did not partake in the last Champions Cup Tournament, The Replacements have a solid front line. This is further reinforced by rookie Michael Whan Kan's, Cheong's cousin, newly proven attacking skills which kept the The Replacements' hopes alive when they uncharacteristically struggled in the RMIT Soccer Challenge 2010.

Nicolas Sin, expected to return from international duty in Mauritius, will be a welcomed addition to the team. Sin has proven himself time and time again as The Replacements' defensive midfielder and play-maker. Adding to the defence, is The Replacements', Dean Singh, who provides a quiet but solid line of defence.

Duong Pham, also returns to The Replacements. Pham has previously played with The Replacements as a striker, however, with first goal-keeper James Bush unavailable, Pham will presumably take over Bush's position and duties. However, the duality of Pham's attacking and goal-keeping skills can only benefit The Replacements.

Given their winning streak, The Replacements are strong favourites in the tournament. Cheong states that the aim for The Replacements is to keep their winning form and emerge victorious. They are surely looking to become the first Mauritian Futsal Cup champions and to pave their way to claim the next Champions Cup. Doing so will give them their hat-trick Champions Cup victory.

The Replacements are nonchalantly looking forward to test themselves against all competing teams and harbour no rivalries against any of them. Will The Replacements be able to claim the historic victory that will make them the first Mauritian Futsal Cup champion? Or will the other competing teams be able to deny them and leave a tarnishing mark against their victorious history?
