Draw and Prizes

The Mauritian Futsal Cup organizers have announced the official draw. With a record 9 teams participating in the tournament, the organizers have decided on a single pool for the single round robin tournament. This results in a long day of competition with a massive 48 matches.

In the round robin qualification round, which consists of 45 matches, a team will play 8 matches (one against every other team), and will have one bye. The top four ranked teams will then progress to the elimination round.

In the elimination round, the first ranked team will play against the forth ranked team and the second ranked team will play against the third ranked team. The winners of these two semi-finals will then progress to the finals.

Once again, the tournament organizers have decided that each team will need to referee a number of games. The organizers feel that refereeing in futsal and football is always a contentious issue and that hiring referees will not necessarily resolve or improve it. Thus, the organizers feel that team each refereeing a number of matches is a good compromise and it also keeps the cost of the tournament low and fair.

The tournament organizers have displayed the prizes for the competition champions. The most impressive prize is the new Mauritian Futsal Cup, which is decorated with four colours of the Mauritian flag: red, blue, yellow, and green. The Mauritian Futsal Cup will be awarded to the first team which wins the competition 5 times or 3 consecutive times. The Mauritian Futsal Cup will surely be the most sought after silverware.

It seems that this inaugural tournament will set the pace for all Mauritian Futsal Cup tournaments to come. The journey to victory will be long and hard, however, the champions will be well rewarded for their arduous and perilous journey. With the draw and silverware announced, there is only a brief wait before the tournament.
